DESIGN STATEMENT:
The collection Innocent Mischief is a playful exploration of childhood nostalgia. I was inspired by key memories of my childhood including playing with bubbles in the garden, oversaturated colours at birthday parties, dressing up in fairy wings and tutus and the idea of living with no responsibilities. Nostalgia is defined as a way to cope with complex pressure and hold on to a vision of simpler times. I connected this with my research, exploring how textures, colours, and shapes can trigger memory and emotion. I was drawn to the idea of “visual noise”, balancing the bright, jumbled energy of childhood with softness and sentimentality. I was especially interested in how materials can feel “alive” (tactile, silly and joyful) and how that feeling can be worn. This came through in my designs with fabric manipulation, loud shapes and bold colour blocking. Overall, this collection is fun and light-hearted, but also carries a sense of tenderness. This collection is about holding on to that innocent version of myself who was curious, chaotic, and unfiltered. Innocent Mischief is my way of turning those foggy memories into something wearable.
