This bag explores the relationship between handcrafted embellishment and contemporary design.
After constructing this purse from baby blue cotton twill, I hand beaded the front with small seed beads. The soft, curved silhouette of the bag was intentionally chosen to create a relaxed, wearable form that contrasts with the intricacy of the hand-beaded surface. I then lined the bag with machine embroidered cotton, inserted a zipper and top stitched details.
The design focusses on a floral lily motif, shown through layered hand beading and bold layers of colour. I chose a vibrant palette of pink, blue, and green tones to evoke a sense of playfulness and nostalgia, while the neutral base fabric allows the detailing to remain the focal point.
Overall, this piece highlights my interest in colour, embellishment, and tactile design, combining decorative techniques with a contemporary, wearable outcome.
